Words from the Principal - Starting small to cultivate children's self-control

After the Thanksgiving trip last Thursday, when I returned to the kindergarten, Auntie Lin left a note on her desk, stating that the power company had made four phone calls, informing me that the electricity bill for last month had not yet been paid, so please go and pay it as soon as possible, thinking that it was a direct transfer of funds, so how could it have not been paid?

Called TEPCO to verify? I asked the power company's contractor to help me, and the person who answered immediately replied that it was a scam call and that I didn't need to pay attention to it, and he went on to say that a lot of people had already called today to ask questions. On Tuesday, I received another call from the marketing department of Yahoo! Chima asking for the principal, but I was busy, so the teacher asked him to call back later. I was smarter this time, and I asked someone else, and I realized that Yahoo! Chima would not take the initiative to call me, so it should be a fraudulent call, which was scary.

Thursday, the administration told her to receive a call to go on a tour visit, the other side said the tour location for the net garden farm, 29 parents, 6 teachers, 35 students to participate in the contact person is Mr. Chen, this hearing, obviously a false fraudulent phone call.

Life is full of many frauds, which is really worrying. The Cambodian transnational fraud case made a lot of noise a while ago, and various fraud cases are also emerging.......Nowadays, when many people pick up an unfamiliar phone call, they subconsciously suspect that it's a fraud first, but from time to time, they still hear the story of being defrauded, which is really too much to be defended against. In addition to phone scams, other forms of fraud are also very scary. It was reported on TV that there are some virtual cryptocurrency trading companies in foreign countries that offer very high interest rates to customers, claiming that it is easy to deposit money into cryptocurrencies to make money, but in fact, these companies are in fact a huge scam that steals customers' funds and feeds the upline with the downline. It is estimated that there may be 20,000 to 300,000 people in Taiwan that are victimized by this scam, with a possible loss of more than tens of billions of dollars in capital.

Why are more and more people engaging in fraud? On the one hand, it may have something to do with the convenience of the Internet and cell phones, and from an educational point of view, it may have something to do with the fact that modern society is getting more and more impatient, and people's ability to control themselves, and that the general environment has polluted the human heart.

There is a famous "delayed gratification" experiment in child psychology, which tests whether children can give up immediate rewards in order to get more rewards in the future. Many studies have concluded that the more capable children are in delayed gratification, the better they will be in terms of schooling, health, and socialization in the future, which is actually in line with our general experience that the better the self-control, the better the performance of the children.

We all know that there is no such thing as a free lunch. However, in today's life where the Internet and social media are so advanced, the pace is fast and there are a lot of temptations, and it is easy to see who has received how much salary in which company, who has traveled around and driven a luxury car on social media, and who has bought crypto-currencies or stocks to become rich overnight, as if it is very easy to become rich. Those with less self-control will easily be influenced and want to get rich overnight, thinking that it's "stupid" to study hard and accumulate in a professional environment. At this point, fraud, which is illegal but not heavily penalized, and which can quickly obtain other people's money, becomes a very reasonable option.

Cultivating children's self-control is a very difficult and long-term process, it is difficult to explain in a few words, but we can start from a small point, to help children develop the habit of living a regular life is a very good start, to maintain a fixed routine, will not be bedridden, have the ability to manage their own time, do not panic, and not be late, the child will gradually have more confidence.

In the future, in an increasingly fast-paced society, children with self-control will be more likely to succeed than others, no matter what industry they are in.

Have a nice holiday, peace and health.
