Parenting] Physical Fitness (Large Muscle Activity)

The gross motor activity consists of morning rhythm, physical activity, and outdoor play, so while a minimum of 30 minutes of gross motor time is required each day, teachers have the flexibility to choose how much time they want to spend in the gross motor play area.

Large muscle techniques can include the following categories:

1. Various Physical Skills Activities

  • Walking-Walking (straight, curved, forward, backward), maze walking, running, fast running, zigzagging, obstacle course running
  • Climbing - crawling (body), crawling (limbs), climbing frames, climbing nets, climbing rocks, climbing poles, climbing stairs, drilling holes (cages) or tunnels
  • Jumping - jumping forward, jumping on both feet, jumping on one foot, standing long jump, hopscotch, jumping rope (feet forward), jumping rubber bands
  • Crossing-Walking Wooden Piles
  • Pulling and pushing - tug-of-war, rolling tin cans, pulling trolleys, pushing tires, and pushing big cage balls.
  • Tumbling - sideways rolls, somersaults (forward, backward)
  • Rotation - body and parts rotation (up and down, left and right, front and back, single or double or multiple)
  • Suspension - Single Lever, Double Lever, Pull Rings, Suspended Single Lever (Grip), Suspended Ring Suspension
  • Coordination - slides (straight or curved, wide or narrow, closed or open, sitting or lying down or footlocker), hula hoops, gyroscopes
  • Balance (swing)-balance beam, stilts, balance ball, stilts, rocking chair, wave boat, swing, rocking wooden horse
  • Riding - twisters, bicycles, scooters (two-wheeled, three-wheeled, assisted wheeled), bicycles, toy cars
  • ball game-Throwing (target distance), catching, rolling, kicking, punting, passing

2. Integrated Physical Skills Activities

  • Circulatory Activity-Play equipment or physical activities that utilize a combination of the above large muscle skills.
  • Musical Play Activities - Rhythm, Dance (Bamboo Dance, Dragon Dance, Lion Dance), Animal Behavioral Mimicry
  • Group Play Activities - Windy Blow, Wooden Man, Red and Green Lights, Peek-a-boo,Balloon UmbrellaSlippery Fabric
