Tabletop game[1], also known as unplugged game, is a generic term for games such as card games (also known as set-and-switch card games), board games, tile-based games, and other games that are played at a table, or in any space where multiple people are facing each other [1]. Broadly speaking, chess, poker, mahjong, etc. are also table games [1].
Board games may also include games that do not rely on electronic devices and products[1] and do not usually require significant movement, often found in social events or workplace team-building activities such as slayer games and land games.
The term "table games" is primarily used to differentiate between computer games, television rides, etc., which require plugging in and the use of electronic devices, and physical activities such as sports, dance, martial arts, and other recreational activities that may be regarded as "games" by either humans or animals, and which require no props at all, or which vary greatly in type. This is also because the etymology of the word game is both "for recreational purposes" and "for the purpose of a sporting event that distinguishes between victory and defeat.
Most enthusiasts mistakenly refer to board games as tabletop games, causing confusion, but in fact board games are just one type of tabletop game, just like puzzle games, role-playing games, or even arcade games, all of which are intertwined, but not completely included in the classification system.
Also, this term can be used to make an important distinction between tabletop role-playing games and role-playing games.
Compared with other types of games, table games emphasize the ability and training of multiple ways of thinking, verbal expression and emotional intelligence. Table games can be broadly categorized into the following types according to the props used:
Board games, including board games; card games; dice games; pen and paper games
Board game themes can cover a wide range of topics, often depending on the content and nature of the game:
Strategy games; Puzzle games; Reasoning games; Role-playing games; ECE games; Skit games.
