I shared with the children that in the past, whenever the Double Ten National Day was celebrated, the kindergarten would organize a community parade. In addition to the children holding a small national flag, there were also flag bearers dressed up as army, navy, air force, ambassadors from various countries, soldiers, peasants, industrialists and businessmen, etc., all of whom walked around the community under the guidance of a musical band, and all of us participated and rejoiced.
With changes in the social environment, similar celebrations are seldom held nowadays. Instead, the product of technological advancement is fireworks, which are set off on the night of the National Day on October 10 every year, and have been one of the government's important activities to celebrate the National Day for many years, and have been well received by the people of Taiwan. This year, after a nine-year hiatus, the Double Ten National Day fireworks were set off in Taichung's Central Park, with fireworks carried by drones and accompanied by music, giving the public a feast for both the eyes and the ears, bringing crowds of people to Taichung and making it a bustling place; although there were no fireworks in Tainan, there were many sightseeing crowds as well, making this year's National Day holiday filled with lots of joy.
While we were celebrating our nation's birthday, Israel was hit by a massive raid by the Palestinian militant organization Hamas, causing heavy casualties. Israel immediately launched Operation Iron Sword to counter Hamas. Many countries, including U.S. President Joe Biden, condemned the Hamas attack. The attack was also criticized by foreign media as Israel's 9/11 and Pearl Harbor. The war between nations, the Ukrainian-Russian war of two years ago, has not yet ended, and HAMAS and Israel are now entering the fray on another battlefield.
However, it is the people who are the most pitiable in a war. Their families are broken and they have no home to go back to. When children quarrel, we hope that they can make up, and most of the time the children can be persuaded by the adults to make up; but it is not so easy when it happens to the adults, not to mention among nations.
Children at the early childhood stage are innocent, lively and lovely, but as they grow older, they are polluted and assimilated by the world, losing the innocence and beauty of their childhood; in the age of advanced information and rapid communication, everything that happens under the sun affects the future masters of our country. As parents and educators, we can only do our best to provide a clean learning and growing environment for our children, and set an example by leaving good values in their hearts, so that when they grow up, they will be able to contribute to society when facing various problems.
