Parenting: Instead of lectures, we should tell stories.

Recently, my four sisters returned to Taiwan to visit their relatives, and we realized that our common childhood memory was sleeping on tatami mats and listening to my mother's stories about the Journey to the West. Our mother's storytelling satisfied our souls - there was no television in Taiwan around the 1940s, and even radios were rare, so our greatest entertainment was listening to old people tell stories. We would go out to the courtyard to enjoy the cool air in the summer, and in the winter, we would listen to the stories in the warmth of the quilts.
