Month: August 2009

Message from the Director August 28

The one-month summer camp ended today (8/28) with the passage of time. Although a typhoon struck on the first Friday of the month, causing serious trauma to the Southern Taiwan area, changing the color of the mountains and rivers, and breaking the heart of the road, we still had to face the situation bravely after wiping away the tears, and solving the problems step by step, just like the rainbow's promise, "The sunshine smiles after a storm". Every other Monday, we celebrate Dad's Day with the children as originally planned.

"Parenting" Children are the mirror of their parents.

To outsiders, children are often said to be like their parents, not just in terms of looks, but in terms of the overall impression they give. It is important for parents to "walk the talk and lead by example". At first glance, this may sound like a cliché with no new meaning. However, it is not surprising that there is no new meaning because "teaching by example" has always been an unchanging rule in homeschooling. Although newborn babies come into the world with certain inborn qualities, they are nevertheless not born with the same qualities as their parents.

It has been two weeks since Typhoon Morakot struck. Some of the homes in the affected areas are roughly 70% to 80% complete after the finishing touches, but the severely damaged areas are still struggling because of the serious siltation of the soil and rocks. Turning on the TV, we see a frightening picture and a helpless face in agony, which is really a cry for help from heaven and earth. We really can't understand and sympathize with their suffering, we can only pray for them silently. Because we can't understand the suffering of the victims, we can't think of anything else to do but to donate money.

"Parenting" Let the M-Society disappear naturally.

A few days ago at a dinner party, a friend said that the biggest problem in Taiwan is the M-shaped society. This society is like a tree. The more saplings you have, the more energy you will get from the sun, and the more leaves you have, the more leaves you will lose. After the leaves decay, naturally there will be ants, fungi and earthworms to convert the decayed leaves into fertilizers, so the stronger you are. According to my friend, the richer the person is, the more resources he can get, and the more money he has, the faster he can accumulate wealth. He thinks that in terms of education, the environment at home is better.

"The sky is full of unpredictable storms, and people have their own misfortunes." In less than a week, the Southern Taiwan area has been devastated by Typhoon Morakot, which brought tremendous rainfall to Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Taitung counties, resulting in severe damage to coastal, low-lying, and mountainous villages, and even entire villages have been hit by mudslides, land erosion, washed-out houses, and broken bridges and roads, resulting in devastation and destruction, and the loss of many people's lives and property, and the overnight loss of their lives and property. Orphans, widows and widowers

"Parenting" Heaven and Earth are not kind.

Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching (《道德經》) says, "Heaven and earth are not kind, and they take everything as regurgitations; the sage is not kind, and he takes the people as regurgitations", which is easy to be misunderstood. In fact, it only emphasizes that "heaven and earth" nurtures all things in accordance with nature, and does not expect them to reciprocate; and the "sages" (rulers) should not expect the people to be grateful for their unquestioning love and care. The so-called "unkindness" means "not to be regarded as benevolence"; therefore, the wind and rain, the drought and flood, or the wind and sunshine are not to be regarded as benevolence.
